Brooklyn Bridge, New York | 02.10.2019

One of the things to do when in New York is to walk across Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Several sightseeing guides prognosticate an experience of a lifetime.

Well, to be honest, I was slightly disappointed. The walk is nice and you get a good view of the skyline, but it is obstructed in several ways, because the walkway is located in the middle of the bridge, slightly elevated above the highways on the left and right. This means that you almost always have some part of the bridge in front of you that obstructs the view. Bummer! Furthermore, the walkway is divided into a footpath for pedestrians and path for bicycles, which means that you have to be careful not to be run over.

Keeping this in mind, it would be a shame to miss this experience, so put Brookly Bridge onto your agenda. Probably the best way to get there is to take either the A or C metro (blue line) and get off at High Street. From there, you should be able to find your way quite quickly.

Also keep in mind that getting off at Hight Street means that you are right in Dumbo and not too far away from Manhattan Bridge. Why is this so special? Well, if you go to Washington Street/Corner Front Street (40°42’8.6458’’ N 73°59’22,6832’’ W), you will have a brilliant view of Manhattan Bridge and through one of the pillars of the bridge you can see the Empire State Building in the background. It is probably one of the most famous photographic spots in New York. A must for photographers. However, I advise you to go early in the morning, otherwise your view will be obstructed by tons of people taking pictures.
