The Tramline (or “Roosevelt Island Tramway”) runs every 7-15 minutes from 59th street and Second Avenue in Manhattan to Tramway Plaza on Roosevelt Island. It is the most modern aerial tramway in the world. Each cabin accomodates approximately 125 passengers – by 115 trips per day on weekdays the total capacity per day is 28.750 and 25.000 on weekends (only 100 trips). The cabin gliedes with approximately 16 miles per hour and travels 3.100 feet. At its peak it climbs to 250 feet and provides a beautiful view across the East River. Two cabins make the run every fifteen minutes from 6.00am to 2.30am (3.30 am on weekends) and continuously during the rush hours.
